It is very likely that bone and wooden tools are also quite early, but organic materials simply don't survive as well as stone. Non-stone toolsA notable exception to the general rule that non-stone tools have not been preserved is the Palaeolithic wooden spear shaft that was recovered in 1911 from a site in Clacton in Essex.
